NEW SCOREBOARD AND SIGNAGE AT THE CONSTANT CENTER ANNOUNCED BY ODU AND SPECTRA VENUE MANAGEMENT

July 28     2015

The premier live-sports atmosphere in the Hampton Roads region is getting even better this fall as Old Dominion University announced the installation of a new centerhung video scoreboard, LED ribbon boards and digital signage in the Constant Center. These new installations are designed to provide Monarch Fans an unparalleled cutting-edge and interactive experience at the Constant Center.

Old Dominion University purchased new LED video displays for the Constant Center from Daktronics of Brookings, SD.  Daktronics was selected to design, manufacture and install the displays after a competitive selection process.

Highlighting the video package are four main video displays, four centerhung corner displays, a lower centerhung ring display, two end wall ribbon displays, two side wall ribbon displays, four vomitory displays, 16 scorer’s tables and a three-sided outside marquee. In total, 33 video displays will be installed to create an immersive interactive experience for fans of all ages.

"We are very excited about the opportunity to enhance the TED experience. The new high-resolution, center-hung video scoreboard and affiliated digital signage throughout the arena will provide visual displays that will be unique in our market. As Old Dominion University and our athletic programs continue to grow, it is important that we continue to attract and entertain our guests in the Ted Constant Convocation Center and we look forward to providing new and exciting fan experiences,” says ODU Chief Operating Officer Dave Harnage.

“Few venues in the country can rival the Ted when it comes to design, spectator experience and entertainment,” says ODU Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig.  “A major component of our guest’s experience will center around our new state-of-the art, high definition video replay scoreboard that will give us the flexibility of not only showing live action and high quality replays,  but also great graphics and vital game and statistical information that will be informative and interactive. The video scoreboard and LED ribbon panels are significant commitments the University is making in providing all of our guests a first class entertainment experience during all events in the TED,” Selig adds.

“The guest experience at the Constant Center is one of our biggest priorities,” said Spectra Venue Management’s General Manager, Mike Fryling. “The installation of these cutting-edge display boards reflect a desire for the community to come to the campus of Old Dominion not to just attend events, but actively participate and engage in the event like never before.”

The four main video displays on the centerhung scoreboard measure approximately nine feet high by 15.5 high wide. The four corner centerhung displays will each measure nine feet high by four feet wide, and all of the scoreboard panels will feature a high resolution of six millimeter line spacing.  The main displays variable content that can show one large image, or be sectioned into separate windows for combinations of video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, animations and sponsor messages.

The four ribbon boards will be mounted along the fascia and measure a combined 2.5 feet high by 492 feet wide.

Installation of the boards will be completed early this fall as the Monarchs begin the 2015-2016 season. Media opportunities for the installation process will be made available as the installation begins.
